It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as the Mayor of Avondale Estates. After reviewing the progress and seeing the positive momentum we have built over the last several years, I have made the decision to seek a second term as Mayor. I am excited about the future prospects of our city and, with your continued support, I would like to remain as your Mayor for the next four years.
By working as a team, we have accomplished many positive achievements that have improved the quality of life in Avondale Estates. It does take responsible, persistent team effort to make positive changes within a governmental structure. During the last three years I have worked well with two different Board of Mayor and Commissioners, the City Manager and our community.
Some of the city's major accomplishments during my first term as mayor were:
- Hired Clai Brown as City Manager, who has made a tremendous impact on the day-to-day management of the city
- Supported the founding of the Museum School of Avondale Estates
- Despite the difficult economy, successfully navigated Avondale's financial polices to greatly enhance the financial condition of the city
- Invested in the development of the city by funding the position of City Planner and Community Development Officer
- Refurbished Lake Avondale
- Supported existing and new businesses in the city by establishing business friendly policies
- Annexed the Fender/Dunlap property into the city while developing a positive reputation with real estate professionals and the development community
- Supported public safety by funding a new position of Investigator in our police force
Again, I would like to be very clear that these are not my personal accomplishments, but the work that we have all done together as a team including the BOMC, the City Manager, city staff, city boards and as an entire community.Looking ahead to the next four years there is much more I believe we can do together as a team to continue to ensure that we build and maintain a sound, open and caring city government that provides safety, a sense of belonging, and opportunities for us to grow together in our community.
